TRICHY: Illegal sand miners allegedly attempted to kill a team of five officers, including a tahsildar, by ramming their tractor into a car in which the officers were travelling in a village in the Pudukkottai district of Tamil Nadu in the wee hours of Sunday.
Acting on a tip-off about the illegal sand mining on the Vennaru river, Aavudaiyarkovil thasildar Ravichandran, revenue inspector Pazhanisamy, village administrative officer Balamurugan and two assistants went to Sirukasuvayal village in a hired car after midnight.
On sensing the arrival of the officers, the sand miners tried to escape from spot on two tractors.
The miscreants on one of the tractors escaped from the scene while the other tractor hit the car of the officers, in an alleged attempt to kill them. The car was damaged. The officers escaped without injuries.
The driver of the tractor escaped from the spot leaving behind the sand-laden tractor. One of the revenue officers drove the tractor to the Aavudaiyarkovil police station and the tahsildar lodged a complaint. The police were searching for the culprits.
