MYSORE : The maestros of Indian classical music will perform at the Mysore Palace premises during Navaratri, the government said on Saturday, indicating that the standoff between the government and Mysore royal family is over.
The government has factored in the request made by maharani Pramoda Devi Wadiyar while fine-tuning the Palace music festival. It will tone down the celebrations in the Palace premises.
Accordingly, the dais will be simple. The government and the royal family were divided on hosting the music festival in the Palace premises, with the latter pointing out that the royal family members are mourning the death of maharaja Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar. The royal family resides in the Palace.
District minister V Srinivas Prasad on Saturday said that the concerns expressed by the maharani have been factored in for the event. "We are sensitive to her request," he stated.
The Dasara cultural sub-committee said that some of the stalwarts will perform at the music festival. The cultural events will be hosted at six different venues over nine days. There will not be any cultural event during Vijayadashami (October 4). The cultural events start at 5.30pm, with maestros' performance scheduled at 7.30pm. The venue will also promote folk arts and music.
