Dowry harassment story continues; another returns to parents' home
BHOPAL: It is a sordid tale of a newly married well-educated young woman and her parents' predicament. Barely a few months after getting married, the young woman was left with no option but to return to her parents' home as her in-laws and her husband traumatised her for dowry.
Meanwhile, her parents, who had married their only daughter after selling their property, are pleading justice for their daughter and punishment for the accused.
Mahila Thana police have registered a case in this regard on Friday and said the matter is under investigation.
The victim's father, Chandra Shekhar Bargal told TOI his daughter had an arranged marriage with Prateek Gaikwad, who works in New Delhi, on February 9.
However, soonafter the wedding, Prateek and his family members, including mother Sapna, father Bharat and brother Siddharth, started torturing her for dowry. Prateek pressured the girl to ask her father to buy a fully furnished flat for him in New Delhi.
Bargal's daughter, who has an engineering and an MBA degree, was working with a firm in Nagpur before marriage. She tried her best to settle into married life, but the stiff attitude of her husband and in-laws forced her to come back to her parent's place.
The girl's husband's father Bharat is employed with the transport department. Bargal said Bharat often hinted that as he worked for a plum department, things given by the bride's family should match their status.
