Secretary Cooperatives reviews functioning, stresses on organising awareness camps

JAMMU, Sept 20: Secretary, Cooperative, R K Koul today reviewed the functioning of the Cooperative Department.
In the meeting, the Additional Registrar, Cooperative Societies Jammu, Anjna Tickoo, Joint Registrar (Audit) Jammu, Tanveer Iqbal, Joint Registrar, Special Jammu, Trishla Kumari, all the Deputy Registrars and District Audit Officers of Jammu province were present.
Secretary took stock of various activities of the cooperative sector in all the districts of Jammu in details. The progress in case of the inspections of the cooperative societies, elections conducted, audit of the cooperative societies, the revival of the cooperative societies etc was reviewed by the Secretary.
It was informed in the meeting that presently 749 cooperative societies have been registered in Jammu division under the provision of J&K Cooperative Societies Act 1989 out of which 378 societies are functional.
During the year 2014-15 up to August, 2014 out of 429 societies are due for audit, 222 of cooperative societies were audited by the Audit Wing of the department. Under arbitration sector, 63 cases were received by different courts of the department out of which 37 cases were decided. Similarly, elections of 28 societies were conducted during the year 2014-15 upto August, 2014. Inspections of 76 societies got conducted by the Deputy Registrars and Assistant Registrars of Jammu division up to August, 2014.
Moreover, 22 administrative inspections have been conducted by the Additional Registrar and Deputy Registrar’s of Jammu division, it was also informed in the meeting that 14 of societies got revived/functional during the year 2014-15.
The Secretary expressed his satisfaction over the functioning of the department in Jammu region. He stressed the need of giving proper attention and focus for the revival of the cooperative societies. He instructed the officers to organize awareness camps in different areas in order to keep the public informed about the value of cooperatives.
