Senior Congress leaders back Dr G Parameshwar for Deputy CM

Showering praise on Dr Parameshwar, Mr Rajashekharan said he was doing a fantastic job

Bengaluru: Senior Congress leader, M V Rajashekharan openly batted for Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president, Dr G. Parameshwar, at the party’s executive committee meeting on Saturday, saying he must be rewarded with the post of deputy Chief Minister for his sterling contribution to the Congress in Karnataka.

Showering praise on Dr Parameshwar, Mr Rajashekharan said he was doing a fantastic job. “But for his contribution, the party would not have come to power. It has to remember this. He should be made deputy Chief Minister,” he insisted, recalling that Mr S.M. Krishna was made deputy Chief Minister in the early nineties and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah too had occupied the post twice.

“What is wrong in creating a deputy Chief Minister’s post? It is wrong to assume that a DyCM could emerge as a parallel power centre. The Congress high command is very strong, No one can emerge as parallel power centre,” he argued. Not stopping there, Mr Rajashekharan went on to accuse the Chief Minister of being castiest and promoting the interests of a few OBCs.“There is a feeling thata few sections have been totally neglected,” he said.

The Congress leader’s statement assumes significance as Lingayats and Vokkaligas are believed to be growing increasingly disgruntled with the government.
