Schools tweak exam dates clashing with voting day in Pune
PUNE: Schools in the city have advanced their mid-term exam dates by a few days to avoid any clash with the voting day. However, they made sure the exams are over well before Diwali so students can enjoy the festival without any exam stress.
Abhinav Vidyalaya had to advance the exam time table by three days, which will now begin towards the end of October first week.
Ujjwala Chafekar, principal of the school, said, "After the election dates were announced, we had to make some changes in the time-table to avoid any inconvenience to the students. The exams will now begin three days earlier since the voting day will be a holiday."
Instead of making major changes in the time-table, certain schools have shifted the paper which was scheduled on the election day. Madhavi Borgaonkar, principal of SPM (primary) English medium school, said: "We have rescheduled the papers that were slotted on the voting day. We had declared a tentative timetable before the election dates were announced. The exams will be over before Diwali."
Nandakumar Kakirde, director and honorary secretary of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, said, "We have only rescheduled the exam on voting day and the papers will be conducted the following Saturday. The rest of the schedule remains the same. We will surrender the school to the election officers a day before the voting day. Though it will be done after the exam for the day is over." Muktangan English School will also be done with the examination before Diwali. However, the papers on October 14 and 15 will be rescheduled, said principal Anjali Khaniwale.
The Kataria High School will also conduct the exam between October 6 and 18 with a holiday on voting day whereas the Loyola High School has also scheduled the exam between October 9 and 17 with holiday on voting day.
