I don’t do negative roles: Upendra
Over the past few days there have been reports in Andhra Pradesh media that Upendra will be cast as an antagonist in Allu Arjun's upcoming flick. The untitled film will be directed by Trivikram Srinivas whose last film Attarintiki Daredi was a huge success. Reports suggested that Upendra will be cast opposite Sneha and he will play the negative role. Earlier this week, advertisements appeared in Telugu media wishing Upendra on his birthday by the film team, further fueling the speculation. Speaking to Bangalore Mirror, Upendra confirmed that he is in talks with the film makers. But was categorical in stating, "I have never done negative roles. I will never do negative roles."

Upendra said, "What the role is and whether I will do it will be confirmed only in the next 5-6 days. It could even be a special appearance. There have also been speculation that Mohan Lal and Amitabh Bachchan will be in the film. But these are just speculation." Upendra said he is having talks with the director Trivikram Srinivas. The Telugu film was officially launched in April but shooting is yet to commence.

While many of his films have been dubbed to Telugu, he has also acted in some Telugu films and is one of the few actors from Kannada who is popular there. His Telugu film includes, Kanyaadanam, Oke Maata, Raa, Neethone Vuntanu and Toss. Even if he agrees to the film, he will take part in it only after completing his new directorial Uppi 2 which he is busy shooting for. The movie is a sequel to his Upendra made 16 years ago. This is the ninth film he is directing in a career that started in 1989. He has already completed shooting for 42 days. "Major portion of the shoot is still pending. We have done only some indoor and rural set up shoot till now. We still have schedules in Mysore, Mumbai, France and the Himalayas," he said. Upendra has plans to use fan-made designs of the film in the advertisements.

"Fans are coming up with so much innovative designs for the film. Many times it is better than what we are doing. I am planning to use some of the fan-made designs in our advertisements," he said. After a two-day break for his birthday, Upendra resumes shooting for Uppi 2 on Sunday. Before Uppi 2, his other film Basavanna (the title is not confirmed and is in a controversy of its own) will release later this year.
