Four seized at JKIA over Sh18 million heist

Police are holding four people after they pulled them out of a plane at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) Saturday evening on suspicion they had been involved in the loss of Sh18 million in Mombasa.

Passengers on the flight from Mombasa were forced to wait in the plane for more than two hours as the police waited to arrest the men.

In an unusual operation, Flying squad officers entered JKIA and detained an aircraft just after landing from Moi International Airport in Mombasa. It was not immediately clear where the money was stolen from.

Usually, the airport in Nairobi is policed by officers from the Kenya Airports Authority and the Kenya Airport Police Unit.

While both units are domiciled at the airport, Flying Squad headquarters are situated in Milimani, in the city.

A source at JKIA said that Sh2 million was recovered when the suspects were arrested.
