Preston beat Crawley to pick up their first win in four league games.
Crawley goalkeeper Jamie Ashdown produced a magnificent save to deny Joe Garner, but from the resulting corner Preston went ahead.
Bailey Wright expertly tucked home from inside the area, but the Reds almost provided an immediate response as Dean Leacock hit the bar with a header.
Midway through the second half Garner wrapped up the win, slotting home a penalty after Mat Sadler handled.
Crawley Town boss John Gregory told BBC Surrey:
"When you come to a place like this, you expect to be put under pressure a lot more then we did.
"I can't remember Jamie Ashdown having to do too much in the second half except for taking the ball out of his net for their penalty. They haven't really caused us too many problems but they kept a clean sheet.
"The problem we have is scoring goals and that's where we are not at our best. That side of our game needs improving.
"We had a lot of pressure and good scoring opportunities but there wasn't a red shirt."
