Shrewsbury Town 0-0 Newport County

Newport stretched their unbeaten run to six games as they dug deep to spoil Shrewsbury's 100% home record.

Visiting goalkeeper Joe Day had a fine day between the sticks, including a magnificent save to deny Shrewsbury substitute Ashley Vincent.

Day was also alert to tip an effort from Jermaine Grandison round the post.

Newport played the last 10 minutes with 10 men after referee Darren Handley showed Andrew Hughes a red card for a high tackle on James Wesolowski.

Shrewsbury Town manager Micky Mellon told BBC Radio Shropshire:

"Of course I'm not satisfied with four points from six. We want to win every game we are taking part in.

"And I'm not interested in whether it's a good point for them. We wanted to start a little run again. But you are always going to have games like this during the season.

"We were being overrun in midfield in the second half. We weren't being physical enough. Chances-wise you have to say we have done enough to win. We've created some fantastic chances. But you have to keep a clean sheet and we've done that."

Newport County manager Justin Edinburgh told BBC Radio Wales:

"It was a very good game but I'm certainly delighted with a consecutive clean sheet away from home and another valuable point.

"I'm disappointed with the reaction of the Shrewsbury players when the tackle [by Hughes on Wesolowski] was made, There were similar type of tackles made in the game when there was no reaction from my players.

"That made a problem for the referee in that sense and I'm not sure if it was the right decision, if I'm honest."
