Rajkot, 20 September, 2014
As expected, the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) has fielded former Rajya Sabha MP Vijaybhai Rupani on Rajkot(West) assembly seat. Polling on Rajkot(West) seat will take place on 15 October.
Rajkot(West) seat was earlier occupied by BJP’s Vajubhai Vala. He vacated the seat following his appointment as Governor of Karnataka.
Shri Rupani had sought party ticket to contest from Rajkot(West) seat in year 2012 assembly general elections, and his name was under consideration till last minute. However ultimately the party gave ticket to then sitting MLA Vajubhai Vala. When Vala vacated the seat, Rupani’s selection was believed certain.
In last one week, several other BJP leaders sought ticket to contest from Rajkot(West) seat purely puting forward the caste arithmetic, however the party today declared Vijaybhai’s name after the Central Election Committee meeting held today under the Presidentship of Shri Amit Shah. Meeting was attended by Shri Narendra Modi, Shri Rajnath Singh,Shri Arun Jaitley,Smt. Sushma Swaraj and all the members of the Central Election Committee of the BJP.
