Lions comeback attempt falls short in loss to Argos

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – For the first time in their past 12 trips to BC Place, the Toronto Argonauts finally got a win as they beat the BC Lions 40-23. It was just the second loss in seven games for the Leos.

The result snapped a four-game losing streak for the Argos.

Ricky Ray got his team off to a quick start, tossing touchdown passes to LaVon Brazill and Chad Owens in the second quarter, as Toronto led 21-9 at halftime.

Manny Arceneaux caught a touchdown pass from Kevin Glenn for BC in the second quarter, but Paul McCallum missed a pair of field goals, forcing the Leos to settle for two rouges instead.

The Argos opened up a 28-9 lead with Steve Slaton’s 28-yard run to the endzone five-and-a-half minutes into the third quarter.

BC got fourth quarter touchdowns from Bryan Burnham and John Beck as it attempted to come from behind for a victory, but Toronto also scored with a Curtis Steele touchdown, a Swayze Waters field goal and a safety.

Glenn completed 21-of-35 pass attempts for 291 yards. He was intercepted once. Arceneaux led the way for the BC receivers, as he caught nine passes for 119 yards and a score.

The defeat leaves BC (7-5) in fourth place in the West Division. The Lions will be out on the road next weekend, as they’ll pay a visit to the Calgary Stampeders on Saturday.
