Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav while expressing his gratitude to the people for winning bypolls launched a veiled attack on BJP leaders dressed in saffron robes.

“Our leaders worked a lot during the bypolls. I thank the people of the state. Some people were roaming by changing their clothes but they received good reply from the people,” Akhilesh said at the sidelines of a function organised by the Labour Department for launching welfare schemes at his official residence on Friday.

“Some people were talking about communalism, but they have been defeated,” he added.

Akhilesh also introduced newly elected MLA Nawab Jaan Khan from Thakurdwara and Bansidhar Baudh from Balha. The CM praised Baudh’s simplicity who still lives in a thatched roof house and had worked as a chowkidar and repaired cycle punctures. “His victory shows that even poor people can become MLAs. We are proud of his simplicity. Some media persons even published the picture of his house,” Akhilesh said.

He also introduced Vachaspati Pasi who won from Sirathu, saying he has won from a general seat.

Festive offer

Earlier, Akhilesh also praised the Labour Department for implementing various welfare schemes for labourers such as scholarship for their children, financial assistance to pregnant female workers, handicapped pension, assistance for funeral rites and compensation, free bicycles, creche for the children accompanying their labourer parents to the workplace, pension scheme, and assistance for serious ailments among others.

On the occasion, Akhilesh also handed over cheques of assistance to labourers for house construction and repairing. “This (labour) department was once considered a department where nothing gets done… I appreciate Labour Minister Shahid Manzoor for the work he has done,” the CM said.
