Alagiri gets respite in land grab case
MADURAI: The Madras high court bench on Friday relaxed a condition to appear and sign daily before the crime branch's anti-land grab unit imposed on former Union minister M K Alagiri while granting an anticipatory bail in a land grab case.
Justice Kalyanasundaram, who heard a petition filed by Alagiri seeking to relax the condition, passed the order and directed him to assist the police investigation as and when needed.

The case pertains to a case registered by the crime branch police against Alagiri, elder son of DMK chief M Karunanidhi, and a few others based on a complaint filed by R Jeyaraman, executive officer, Arulmigu Vinayagar Thirukoil. In his complaint, Jeyaraman had alleged that Alagiri had grabbed 44 cents of land belonging to the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment department by forging documents.
Apprehending arrest in the case, Alagiri had filed petitions seeking advance bail. Subsequently, he had filed another petition to quash the FIR, which was dismissed.
