Rs 10 lakh robbery story concocted, say police
CHANDIGARH: Police on Friday termed the robbery of Rs10 lakh from the driver of an industrialist, Dharam Pal, a concocted story, and arrested the driver for misleading the police. Dharam Pal had claimed that he was robbed by four motorcyclists - two of them in turbans, and the other two in police uniforms - near Sector 44 on September 18.
DIG (UT) AS Cheema said the driver - working in a private company called Aggarwal Welding and Mill Store in Industrial Area - reportedly confessed to concocting a story of robbery, because he was under depression, and wanted to settle somewhere else in India with the 'robbed' money.
Sources said the driver was upset as her two daughters were not yet settled.
In his complaint to the police, the driver claimed he was taking a cash amount of Rs10 lakh from Mohali to his company office in Industrial Area, Phase-1, Chandigarh, when four motorcyclists intercepted his way and snatched the bag. Crime branch sleuths said Dharampal was being monitored by the police, and was apprehended near Marble Market, Dhanas. The police have recovered the looted money of Rs10 lakh on his disclosure. The accused will be produced in a local court on Saturday.
