VADODARA: After successfully organising a Rakhi Mela for women self-help groups in the district, the Vadodara district administration along with the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) is now holding a Navratri Mela in the city. The fairs are aimed at selling goods made by these groups.
The five-day Navratri Mela will be held on the banks of Sursagar in the heart of the city from Sunday.
Women self-help groups and Sakhi Mandals supported by the state government will sell chaniya-cholis, kurtas, dandias, imitation jewellery, pooja items, henna, footwear, temporary tattoos and other material for the Navratri and even the Diwali festivities at the fair.
In all, 25 stalls will be put up at Sursagar for the fair. District collector Avantika Singh said that by buying from the fair, citizens would promote the craft of women and contribute to their economic empowerment.
