Sarah English, the Managing Director of specialized user experience design firm Usability Matters, has been recognized in the 16th annual W100 ranking of Canada’s Top Female Entrepreneurs, produced by PROFIT, Canadian Business and Chatelaine.

Sarah English, co-founder and Managing Director of Usability Matters Inc., has been recognized as one of Canada’s Top 100 Female Entrepreneurs. Usability Matters is the only user experience and digital design company included on the list, and is one of only 10 small businesses that qualified for this honour.

This distinction is part of the 16th annual W100 ranking of Canada’s Top Female Entrepreneurs, produced by PROFIT, Canadian Business and Chatelaine. The W100 profiles the country’s most successful female business owners, ranking each business on a composite score based on the size, growth rate and profitability of the business.

Published in the October issue of Canadian Business, the November issue of Chatelaine and online at PROFITguide.com and chatelaine.com, the W100 is Canada’s largest annual celebration of entrepreneurial achievement by women.

“It’s a proud moment for my partners and I, “ said Sarah English. “Our business was founded over a decade ago by Terry Costantino and Shannah Segal and I. While the fact that we were all women was a non-issue for us at the time, in retrospect it has had a tangible effect on the way we designed our business, our company culture and ultimately our success. It’s a fantastic moment of recognition and we’re thrilled to be part of such an talented and amazing group of women on the list.”

This year’s W100 represents the absolute best of Canada’s business community,” said James Cowan, Editor-in-chief of Canadian Business and PROFIT. He continued by underlining “how vital they are to driving innovation and growth in the Canadian economy.”

Founded in 2002, Usability Matters is Canada’s premier user experience studio. Focussing on strategy, design and research for software, apps, and other digital products, they have built a strong reputation for their expertise, insightful design solutions and their exceptional service to clients. In an industry often characterized by flighty start-ups, grandiose egos and missed deadlines, their steadfast approach and reliable processes stand out from the crowd.  Their success is evidenced in their top-tier client base, including recent projects for WestJet, Scotiabank, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Toronto Public Library, and Shoppers Drug Mart.

“This award comes at an interesting time for our business,” stated English. “We’re re-focusing our company, including the addition of service design, and are reaching out to new verticals. We see this as a great recognition of the work we’ve done so far and look forward to the next phase of our company’s growth – not only in size and profit, but in the quality of projects and commitment to our team and our ideals.”.
