An Indian television news anchor at a state-controlled station was fired for reading Chinese President Xi Jinping’s name as “Eleven Jinping” after she mistook his family name for Roman numerals Friday. The goof was unfortunate for Doordashan, which is trying to shake a reputation for poorly produced shows, according to Reuters. The mistake was also mocked on social media.

"It is an unpardonable mistake," a senior official at Doordarshan, the Indian television station, told Reuters. “We have debarred her from news reading for a few months.” The official said the news reader, whose name was not given, was employed on a “casual basis.”
