Arrival of fine variety turmeric lifted the spot prices of the spice at Erode markets on Friday. “All the 250 bags of hybrid finger and root variety turmeric were sold, because of arrival of fine variety. Some traders are having a few orders for such hybrid turmeric and so they quoted higher price and procured all the stocks,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
On Friday, the hybrid finger turmeric gained ₹150 a quintal and the root variety by ₹120 . But the local finger turmeric was down ₹500 and the root variety ₹100.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹4,199-6,299 a quintal; the root variety ₹4,007-5,889.
Salem Hybrid: The finger turmeric fetched ₹5,817-7,419 and the root variety ₹5,477-6,204. Of the 752 bags that arrived, 312 were sold.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric went for ₹5,169-6,065; the root variety ₹5,114-5,964. Of the 688 bags on sale, 537 were sold.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,116-6,289 and the root variety ₹5,089-5,896. Of the arrival of 772 bags, 734 were traded.
At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric ruled at ₹5,281-6,180; the root variety ₹4,880-5,793. All the 161 bags found takers.
