fire has gutted a flea market in Wirobrajan, Yogyakarta, destroying around 80 kiosks in the market. The fire, which according to witnesses may have been caused by a short circuit, broke out at around 12 a.m. Friday morning.
Pardi, one of the vendors, said he was alterted about the fire at around midnight. He then rushed into the market and found that his kiosk was among those that had been destroyed.
'I have nothing left. My kiosk and everything inside it have gone,' Pardi said on Friday as quoted by kompas.com.
Yogyakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Slamet Santoso said the police had launched an investigation into the cause of the fire and had questioned dozens of witnesses.
'There is a strong indication that the fire began from an electric short circuit in one of the kiosks,' he said.
Most of the kiosks in the market sell motorcycle spare parts, electronic devices and fabrics.(dic)
