Indonesia's budget carrier market becoming 3-way battle

Citilink is expanding its domestic flight services in Indonesia, and expects to turn a profit for the second half of this year.

JAKARTA -- Budget air travel in Indonesia is changing quickly as most small carriers feel the financial pinch, leaving the low-cost battle for the country's skies a three-way competition.

The top player, Lion Air, is facing increased competition from Citilink Indonesia as Citilink adds flights between various cities, and from Indonesia AirAsia, a unit of Malaysia-based AirAsia, Southeast Asia's largest budget carrier.
