MBABANE – The Royal Swaziland Police (RSP) Service has offered a E20 000 cash reward to a person who would provide information that would lead to the arrest of the culprit who burnt sugar cane fields belonging to the Royal Swaziland Sugar Corporation (RSSC).

This comes after an estimated 90 hectares of RSSC sugar cane fields, situated at Vuvulane, were burnt by unknown people in a space of a week.
The damage of the fields has caused RSSC a loss estimated to be around E1.5 million.
About 63 hectares of sugar cane fields belonging to the company were burnt last weekend; a sabotage act which RSSC said caused a damage of about E1million.

A further 27 hectares of sugar cane fields belonging were burnt on Monday night, causing damage in the region of E500 000.
Police have not yet been able to establish who may be behind these acts of sabotage but it was widely believed that sympathisers of the seven Vuvulane farmers who have been arrested for defying a court order may have done this.

The announcement of the E20 000 cash reward was made by the Deputy National Commissioner of Police Sipho Dlamini at the police headquarters, during a brief press conference yesterday.

Dlamini said as police officers, they greatly discouraged such acts of criminality.
He noted that apart from being unlawful, this further crippled and threatens the socio-economic development agenda of the nation of attaining first world status.

“If such acts emanate from grievances and disputes, we advise all parties involved to use existing structures for solving such, adhere and comply with orders issued by courts. We, therefore, request for calm, peace and order to prevail in these areas,” said Dlamini.
He assured members of the public that the information would be treated with confidentiality.
“The identity of the person proffering information will be treated with confidentiality and respect where such is requested,” Dlamini assured.
He appealed to any person with information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the culprits to contact the police.
