HLIB assigns `neutral' call on telecoms sector [Business Times (Malaysia)]

(Business Times (Malaysia) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) HONG Leong Investment Bank (HLIB) has placed a "neutral" call on the telecommunications industry, making an exception to DiGi Telecommunications Bhd as its top pick following Industry Performance Report 2013 issued by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) last week.

The research house said DiGi has a good record for executing its business plans.

The report said MCMC is looking at ways to optimise the use of 700MHz spectrum for long-term evolution services. The present use of the 470MHz to 742MHz frequencies by the television (TV) industry is expected to see massive changes as the TV space migrates to digital terrestrial TV broadcasting, taking up only the 470MHz to 696MHz bandwidth and freeing up the rest.

HLIB said once analogue TV broadcasting migrates fully to digital, the 698MHz to 742MHz spectrum will be freed for the use of LTE by the telcos.

It said MCMC is undertaking a spot of housekeeping as the body reviews the awarding of the 900MHz and 1800MHz spectrums (c) 2014 The New Straits Times Press (Malaysia) Berhad. All rights reserved. Provided by SyndiGate Media Inc. (Syndigate.info).
