Bokaro: Two undertrial prisoners, Bablu Choudhary alias Roshan Pratap Choudhary of an inter-state looters’ gang, and Sudan Singh, another robber, escaped from a lock-up of Bokaro court by digging holes into a toilet wall on Thursday.
This is the third time when Choudhary escaped from jail custody while for Singh, it was his second. They managed to flee despite jail authorities guarding them round the clock in the wake of their past records.
Choudhary was wanted in several cases of robbery in Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Bihar and West Bengal.
Sources said the duo could not have escaped without help from police personnel. SP Jitender Singh has suspended seven constables and an assistant sub-inspector deployed on duty.
“Choudhary is facing trial in 13 cases while Sudan in six criminal cases in the district court,'' said Praveen Kumar, jail superintendent of Chas jail.
The incident occurred around 4.15 pm, a police officer said. Police recovered an iron rod from the lock-up, he added.
Of the 13 cases registered against Choudhury, Rs 2.5crore jewellery loot in Sambalpur district of Orissa in 2008 and ATM loot in Corba, Chhattisgarh in 2010 are the most prominent ones.
He had 14 members in his gang, all of them hailed from Bokaro, Dhanbad, Patna, Purulia, Ranchi and others. Singh, too, is involved in several incidents of robbery including a loot of Rs 20 lakh from a house of a contractor Vinayak Kumar in Balidih area of Bokaro.
