The public is invited to the meet, a perfect prelude to patriotic plans. Collectors will sell memorabilia, including bottles, signs, calendars and promotional items. Watch award-winning hoop dancer Derrick Suwaima Davis perform July 5,  along with Navajo textile weaver Marilou Schultz. July 12 events include the YellowHouse Dancers, Hopi basket weaver Janette Chimerica and others. Enjoy performances by the Native Spirit Dancers and basket artist Anthony Belvado on July 19 along with the Yellow Bird Indian Dancers and pottery artist Lucille Maho on July 26. 7/5: ‘OUTLANDER’ AUTHOR EVENT | Paradise Valley author Diana Gabaldon will discuss the world of "Outlander" during a free event at Barnes & Noble in north Scottsdale. The  hugely popular saga about time-traveling nurse Claire and dashing Scotsman Jamie has been told through eight books that have sold more than 17 million copies. That led to a Starz TV series that debuted last year to solid ratings and a rabid online fan base. Gabaldon will talk about the series (potential spoilers?) and sign the reissued edition of the first novel in the series ($18). There will be a trivia contest and fans are encouraged to dress in costume. A prize pack will be awarded; the set contains a poster from the TV show, Gabaldon's "The Outlandish Companion" and a set of DVDs that includes the first eight episodes of Season 1. The works are by John Coleman, considered one of the finest cowboy artists in America. More than 30  bronzes provide a stunning retrospective of Coleman's work. Peterson applies the patinas, which are the colored surfaces of a bronze that occurs either naturally as a result of oxidation or artificially through treatment with acid. OPENS 6/30: ‘SADDLES THAT SHAPED THE WEST’ | Saddle up for fun as the Western-themed exhibit features the work of saddle maker Carson Thomas. The exhibit highlights half-scale saddles featuring one-of-a-kind carvings and stampings. The preview includes 12 saddles with a broader exhibition, “Ride Through History,” following in 2017. A second-generation saddle maker, Thomas was raised in saddle shops from Montana’s mountains to the Valley’s Sonoran Desert. DETAILS: June 30-December 2016. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesdays-Saturdays; noon-4 p.m. Sundays. Desert Caballeros Western Museum, 21 N.
