Four arrested following attempted heist and joyride around Lower Mainland

RICHMOND (NEWS1130) – Charges are being recommended after four men, well-known to police, were involved in an attempted robbery at a jewellery store in Aberdeen Mall in Richmond on Tuesday.

Just after 3 p.m., three masked men armed with a shotgun tried to get into Wonderland Jewellery, but they couldn’t get in and took off in a stolen Jeep Cherokee driven by a fourth man.

The car was abandoned in Richmond before the foursome got into a stolen pick-up truck and then drove to Burnaby. The group dumped that vehicle and stole another Jeep Cherokee. They then took off to Port Moody and tried to steal two more cars.

They were eventually arrested after getting caught by Vancouver Police officers and the K-9 Unit.

“They’ve [the four] been on the radar of Vancouver Police. They’re individuals that we felt required some special attention. Just because they’re committing a crime in Richmond on that particular day, doesn’t mean they’re not committing crimes in Vancouver and other jurisdictions throughout the Lower Mainland on other days,” says Constable Brian Montague.

A shotgun and some ammunition were recovered.

Charges of robbery with a firearm, disguise with intent, possession of stolen property and possession of firearm have been forwarded to Crown Counsel.

Three of the four were treated for dog bites. They’ll stay in custody until their next court appearance tomorrow.
