The ANC wants to move slowly on Nkandla, and the opposition wants to move fast.

That was the gist of an at times ill-tempered meeting last night of the parliamentary ad hoc committee on the improvements to President Jacob Zuma's private Nkandla homestead.

The DA and the Economic Freedom Fighters insisted that Zuma and Public Protector Thuli Madonsela be called to explain their roles in the Nkandla saga.

But the ANC first wanted to "discuss" and "consider" the different reports written by Madonsela, the Special Investigating Unit and cabinet's security cluster before deciding who should be called before the committee.

The committee must finish its work by October 24. After more than two hours of bickering, ANC MP and committee chair Cedric Frolick ruled in favour of the ANC.
