Make-over sans make-up

Make-over sans make-up
Since it was their second film together after the success of Addhuri, Dhruva and Radhika went to great lengths to make the new film Bahaddur different

Dhruva Sarja is back after his impressive debut in Addhuri. In his second film Bahaddur, he is once again paired with Radhika Pandit. To remove the impression that the casting was a ploy to encash on the success of this pairing in the first film, the actors and film-makers went to great lengths to distinguish the characters and looks in the two films. So much so that for the five songs, the lead actors avoided make-up.

Says Dhruva,“We did not use make-up for the songs. The director held a workshop for the crew for three months. The idea was that we should be identified as Ashok and Anjali (names of characters) in Bahaddur rather than Acchu and Rachchu (name of characters in Addhuri). The songs were also shot in diverse locations. While once we almost suffered sunstroke during shooting of one song, it was the other extreme of severe rains during another.” The actor also went to extremes with his own body. He put on 22 kilograms for the role, but took time off to shed 18 kgs for the songs. “This was also required for the story and it would not be right to reveal why exactly I needed to go to extremes ,” he says.

All the five songs in the film are choreographed by Harsha. “He is a tough taskmaster and he devised a signature step for each song,” says Dhruva.

Director Chethan says it was a challenge he willingly accepted to recast the Addhuri pair. He said, “We had to compete with Addhuri as people recognised the lead pair with that film. All the five songs are of different genre. One is a fusion song, another is rhythmic, in yet another song we tried to do a 'harikathe' kind of song.”

Harikrishna has scored the music and since he had scored for the hit songs of Addhuri as well, he had the task of outdoing himself. The audio is released through Harikrishna's own company. He should already be counting the success as even before the official public launch, 1 lakh-plus songs of the film have been digitally downloaded and the film team has announced a platinum disc. “The success of the audio has been a team effort. Our intention to get the people interested in the film has succeeded. Now it’s time to give them a treat,” says Dhruva.

The search for Hari Nigam

The producer of the film, KP Shrikanth has created a Google search for a singer named 'Hari Nigam.' Chethan explains, “We were shooting in Malaysia and the locals who were watching the shoot seemed to like the song a lot. Many of them were tapping their foot and this was a clear indication they liked the song. They asked who the singer was. Producer Shrikanth played a prank and said it was 'Hari Nigam' combining names of Harikrishna and Sonu Nigam. Many of them started searching on the Internet for Hari Nigam. It was fun.”
