Youth held for allegedly raping minor in Bhadohi district

Heavy police force had to be deployed to calm down the situation following rumours that the viilagers have attacked the house of the headman and set it afire. The police denied any incidence of arson.

According to police, the incident came to light when some persons heard the shrieks of the girl. When they rushed to the spot, they spotted a young man – later identified as Neelesh Yadav, son of Yogendra Yadav, who worked in Mumbai – raping her. The accused fled the spot.

The girl was taken to the Community Health Centre in Gopiganj, from where she was referred to the district hospital in Mirzapur. The police said that her condition has now stabilised.

“The accused was arrested this morning and sent to jail. He has been charged under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The situation is currently peaceful,” Kumar said.

“The people were highly agitated following the incident. However, the reports of arson turned out to untrue. As a matter of precaution, the police force has still been deployed,” said Additional SP (Bhadohi), Lallan Prasad.
