Top gigs: September 19-25

By Bronwyn Thompson

Bonjah
Friday, September 19, Newtown Social Club, newtownsocialclub.com

The Melbourne-based Kiwis are saddling up for their biggest national tour yet, which includes more than 20 shows over the next month. They've enjoyed a great response to new set Beautiful Wild, which hit the indie charts at No.2, so Bonjah will have plenty of eyes on them when they hit the stage tonight. Tickets on sale for $19.50.

Such nice folk: Boy and Bear play the Opera House before heading overseas on tour.

Miami Horror
Friday, September 19, Oxford Art Factory, oxfordartfactory.com

The Melbourne electronica folk have swapped the southern capital for the palm trees and freeways of Los Angeles, so you won't be able to catch them live too often. They bring with them gifts, too, such as new material including single Wild in Motion (Set It Free). Growing in strength as songwriters and producers, expect Miami Horror to also be at their best on the live front, too. Tickets on sale for $28.70.

Sold out: Sticky Fingers are playing the Metro and you practically have to beg, steal or murder for a ticket.

One Day
Friday, September 19, Enmore Theatre, sold out

There's always been some healthy collaborations in the hip-hop world, so it's no surprise to see this supergroup form from local stars Horrorshow, Spit Syndicate, Jackie Onassis and Joyride. They'll all play solo sets, then come together for a special finale featuring all seven rappers – a must-see for fans. Tickets are still available for $39.80.

Boy and Bear
Sunday and Monday, September 21 and 22, Sydney Opera House Concert Hall, sydneyoperahouse.com

It's been a while between drinks for Boy and Bear fans, but the band are back in style – they make their Concert Hall debut. It's a special occasion, too, with the Brisbane folkies getting set to jet off to Europe and the US next month. There are a limited number of tickets available, at $59.

Sticky Fingers
Wednesday and Thursday, September 24 and 25, the Metro, sold out

There's no stopping the Sydney band, whose popularity has soared over the past 12 months. Now it's hard to find a show that isn't sold out. They're playing four shows in a row at the Metro – impressive in itself – and there isn't a spare ticket to any of them. Expect plenty from the reggae-rock act's recent set Land of Pleasure.
