Transport Ministry examining possibility of turning Ramat David airbase into international airport

The Transportation Ministry has receive approval from the Defense Ministry to examine the possibility of turning the Ramat David air force base into a future civilian international airport.
Asked to comment on the matter, the Defense Ministry said in a statement that “no operative decision has been taken so far.” It added that initial checks are being carried out by the Mittra company.
The idea of setting up a “second Ben-Gurion Airport” in the Jezreel Valley has been floated several times in recent years. Last year, Civil Aviation Authority director- general Giora Romm told a conference organized by the Fisher Institute for Air and Space Strategic Research that he recommends building the second airport at Ramat David.
Romm added that the site would be converted into a full international air travel hub, and that its security functions would be minimized if the plan went ahead.
