CCA Supports FCC's Repacking Methodology for Upcoming Incentive Auction

(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) WASHINGTON, Sept. 17 -- The Competitive Carriers Association issued the following news release: Today, Competitive Carriers Association (CCA) filed a Motion for Leave to Intervene in support of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC or Commission) in the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) v. FCC proceeding. CCA supports the FCC's decision to use updated software and data to implement the repacking process of the incentive auction, and is hopeful the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals will quickly resolve this matter in the Commission's favor.

"CCA supports the FCC's incentive auction order, which will give all carriers, from the largest to the smallest, the opportunity to bid on and win desperately needed low-band spectrum," said CCA President and CEO Steven K. Berry. "The FCC made a sage decision to use updated software to run a more reliable and predictable broadband spectrum auction. It's common-sense that the Commission should use the most precise data available, such as moving from year 2000 to 2010 census data and utilizing more granular terrain elevation information." "Competitive carriers need low-band spectrum, and they need it now. CCA strongly supports the FCC's incentive auction order, and will continue to advocate on behalf of competitive wireless carriers to ensure the FCC is capable of assigning the spectrum resources carriers need in the most efficient way possible. To enhance competitive choice and ultimately benefit consumers, our members must be able to access this valuable, highly-desirable spectrum at auction in the near-term."
