The earth may feel like it’s quaking a bit near Kino Memorial Stadium Saturday afternoon.
No need to worry — much — it’s just the crashing and thrashing of rock music that is the cornerstone of the annual rite of fall: the KFMA Fall Ball.
The 2014 installment brings Godsmack back to Tucson for the first time since they filled the AVA at Casino del Sol in 2011. The nearly 20-year-old Massachusetts-born band fronted by drummer-turned-lead-singer Sully Erna shares Fall Ball billing with the South African post-grunge, alt-metal outfit Seether.
Here’s a quick look at the other bands involved:
Buckcherry
Their born-on date was 1995, but they took some time off in the early 2000s to find their direction. This week, lead guitarist Keith Nelson spouted off to Blabbermouth.net about Irish rockers U2 giving away 33 million copies of their new album to iPhone users. Nelson said U2 sent a message that its music wasn’t worth anything, a message he fears consumers will take to heart and expect of other bands.

The Devil Wears Prada
Ohio Christian metal band spent the summer on the mainstage at Vans Warped Tour. While their message draws from their Christian faith, their sound is firmly rooted in contemporary, thrashing and crashing heavy metal.
Pop Evil
The Lansing, Michigan, band on Tuesday released the deluxe bonus edition of their months-old album “Onyx,” which showcases an emotional side to lead singer Leigh Kakaty with the single “Torn to Pieces.” The album also has a remixed version of “Trenches” with Darryl “DMC” McDaniels.
Escape the Fate
This Vegas band blends a bit of punk and metalcore in a sound that rests more in mainstream pop-rock than its hair-whipping, screamo brethren.
These Raven Skies
We nominate this band for most interesting evolution award. They started out peddling heavy metal then adopted a more sonically diverse mission statement that includes incorporating sitar, keyboard and tabla. The evolution came with a gentle nudge and push from Canadian singer, writer, guitarist Jeff Martin (Tea Party), who is an unofficial fifth member of the band, according to its website.
Tattered
Canada’s fairly new metal rockers attribute their sound to the varied influences of its members, from funk to death metal.
