Etihad employs120 Italian pilots as part of Alitalia deal

(MENAFN) Etihad Airways announced it will hire more than 120 pilots from Italy as part of its deal to take a 49 percent stake in the troubled Italian carrier Alitalia, Gulf News reported.

The deal, which was announced last August, included the cuts of 2.000 jobs at the Italian airline but the company said at the time that a number of pilots and engineers would be offered positions in Abu Dhabi by Etihad for three years, but that they might return to Italy after that period.

Etihad Airways also defended its acquisition strategy of eight carriers that stretches from Australia to Ireland, despite being questioned by several European carriers over their influence over the airlines it holds stakes in.
