Starless Red Bulls blanked by Montreal in CONCACAF match

MONTREAL — Marco Di Vaio scored the lone goal in the first half as the Montreal Impact beat the Red Bulls 1-0 in a CONCACAF Champions League game Wednesday.

The Impact are unbeaten after three matches and have one group game left against the Red Bulls on Oct. 22 at Red Bull Arena.

The Red Bulls played without stars Thierry Henry, Bradley Wright-Phillips and Tim Cahill and finished the game with 10 men after defender Connor Lade was sent off with 14 minutes left.

Di Vaio scored in the 16th minute. After the Red Bulls gave away possession midfield, Ignacio Piatti found Di Vaio at the edge of the 18-yard box. The Italian chested the ball down and poked it past goalkeeper Ryan Meara.
