THE Zimbabwe Defence Forces Benefit Fund (ZDFBF) has allocated more than 3 098 houses to its members as part of efforts to ease accommodation problems, a fund board member has said.
Speaking during a handover ceremony of 10 completed Chenzanga Township core houses in Mutoko yesterday, the fund’s chairperson, Mr Sijabuliso Biyam, said the ZDFBF project sought to mitigate the accommodation challenges faced by most of its members and their families. He said this was in line with the country’s economic blueprint, Zim-Asset.

“The ZDFBF is playing its part towards the achievement of Government goals on accommodation and the construction of these houses is meant to spur development by improving the social and economic conditions of our members,” he said.

“Our trust has been fulfilling the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) on the provision of housing since its inception in 1988.”

Mr Biyam hailed the ZDF, Zimbabwe National Army and the Air Force of Zimbabwe for supporting efforts to address accommodation challenges faced by members of the armed forces.

Speaking at the same occasion, Colonel Blessing Maraire said the ZDFBF housing project had registered significant progress.

“The projects undertaken are progressing at a good rate as the fund has implemented a fix and supply method on all its projects in the various cities and towns across the country,” said Col Maraire.

He said 4 725 stands had already been purchased from various authorities and private developers and all were at various stages of development.

“The ZDFBF also dovetails with Government’s economic blueprint cluster of the Zim-Asset of construction and infrastructure development. Apart from construction, the fund issues out loans of about US$5 000 to its members to build houses,” said Col Maraire.
