Call to plant more saplings

Palle calls for protection of saplings and forests
Anantapur: Information and public relations minister Palle Raghunath Reddy called upon the students and other sections of people to make Anantapur as ‘Harithapuram’ by protecting saplings and forests. As part of 65th Vanamahotsavam celebrations, the ministers Raghunath Reddy and Paritala Sunitha inaugurated Neeru-Chettu programme at government polytechnic premises here on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Raghunath Reddy said the government had initiated steps to plant at least 11 lakh saplings in all parts of state. The Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu , was keen on eradication and mitigation of drought in the district that stands second lowest rainfall being reco-rded in the country.“Every student shou-ld be aware of plantation and protection of saplings to fight against drought conditio-ns,” the minister stated.
Further, he announ-ced to celebrate birthday by planting at least 38,000 saplings at all parts of the district by the students of his own 48 education institutions on Thursday. Civil supplies minister Paritala Sunitha asked the students to protect plants at their educational institutions and other locations that would improve greenery in the district. Collector Solemen Arogyaraj said that forest and rural development officials were involved in massive plantation drive in all parts of the district.
The ministers Raghunath Reddy and Sunitha inspected hostels at polytechnic and interacted with the students over the facilities and quality of food being serviced at the hostel. The ministers and other officials had their lunch at the hostel along with the students. Zilla Parishad chairman Chaman Saheb, whip Yamini Bala and MLC Samanthakamani accompanied the ministers.
