Extortion complaint against MCG engineer
GURGAON: Days after three of his subordinates complained against assistant engineer Narender Suhag for pressuring them to pass bills without verifying them, another employee from the same department has written to the deputy commissioner accusing Suhag of putting pressure on him to extort money from shopkeepers in Sadar Bazaar.
In his letter (a copy of which is with TOI), the employee said that Suhag has been demanding money from shopkeepers in Sadar Bazaar to allow them to rent the space outside their shops to small vendors.
He further alleged that Suhag threatened to sack him if he would refuse to extort money on his behalf.
Senior officials with the district administration acknowledged that they have received the complaint. "Complaints being filed against Narender Suhag are piling up and we feel that the reason why this letter has been submitted to the deputy commissioner instead of being addressed to the municipal commissioner is because the MCG authorities do not seem to take any action against this official. His wife's name has also cropped up in the fake judge case,
" said an official. "It is true there have been several complaints against him and most of them are from people working within the sanitation department headed by him. However we are yet to get some evidence against him. The latest allegation just goes to show why we have not been able to remove encroachments in the heavily congested Sadar Bazaar area. On one hand we keep undertaking these anti-encroachment drives, but if some MCG officials take bribe to allow these encroachments, then this problem will persist," said a MCG official.
Despite repeated attempts, Narender Suhag could not be contacted.
