Eight players missed at least a portion of the Redskins’ practice on Wednesday afternoon — including tight end Jordan Reed, whom coach Jay Gruden said earlier this week would need to practice by Friday if he hoped to play Sunday at Philadelphia.

Reed, who has been hampered by a strained left hamstring, missed Washington’s home opener against Jacksonville on Sunday.

“It’s just a dang hamstring,” Gruden said. “It’s one of the most difficult injuries to guess upon and try to predict because if you try to push him out there too quick, he’ll re-injure it. Right now, he’s not doing anything. He’s just working with the trainers as far as doing some rehab in there. Hopefully, tomorrow, he’ll go out there and he’ll do some more individual work and we’ll see where he’s at.”

Wide receiver DeSean Jackson (separated left shoulder), defensive end Kedric Golston (strained left groin), inside linebacker Akeem Jordan (sprained MCL in left knee) and cornerback Tracy Porter (strained hamstring) also did not practice. Kicker Kai Forbath (strained right groin) and fullback Darrel Young (strained neck) were limited in practice.

Running back Roy Helu (strained left quadriceps), left guard Shawn Lauvao (unspecified knee strain) and outside linebacker Brian Orakpo (sprained right ankle) did not miss any time in practice on Wednesday.

For the Eagles, inside linebacker Mychal Kendricks did not practice because of a right calf injury sustained Monday in the victory at Indianapolis. Cornerback Cary Williams, who has been battling through an unspecified hamstring injury, was the only other starter who missed a portion of practice on Wednesday.
