According to reports from a leading daily, Irrfan's wife Sutapa Sikdar has negotiated the deal on his behalf.

The miniseries is a joint collaboration and is being co-produced by Japan's national public broadcaster, Nippon Hoso Kyokai (NHK), Canada's Don Carmody Television and FATT Productions in the Netherlands. At the helm of direction are filmmakers Michael McGowan and Pieter Verhoeff.

A source close to the daily added that the miniseries will delve into the events in the Pacific during and after World War II.

The shooting will apparently commence early next year in Japan, aiming to air in August 2015.

Closer home, Irrfan will be seen next with actress Kangana Ranaut in director Sai Kabir's 'Divine Lovers'.
