Patel women from Mehsana and Patan vow to correct sex ratio

More than 5,000 women from 168 villages of Mehsana and Patan districts affiliated to Samast Patel Samaj took a pledge on Sunday to shun female foeticide and construct toilets at their houses.

PALANPUR : More than 5,000 women from 168 villages of Mehsana and Patan districts affiliated to Samast Patel Samaj took a pledge on Sunday to shun female foeticide and construct toilets at their houses.
Newly-elected president of the women's wing of the Samaj, Prof Jagrutiben Patel said, "The main concern of our community is to correct the highly skewed sex ratio by generating awareness among both men and women of the community."
She said that women are also being motivated to go in for mammography tests after the age of 40 to check the occurrence of breast cancer.
In addition to this, girls are being encouraged to undertake self-defence courses.
The event was jointly organized by Samast 84 Patel Samaj and its women's wing at Bandhan party plot on Modhera Road in Mehsana.
President of Kelvani Mandal of the Samaj Jasubhai Patel asked those present not to differentiate between their daughters and daughters-in-law. The office bearers of the women's wing of the Samaj were also elected at the event.
