According to the police and residents of the society, Bakshi started creating a ruckus in the society on Tuesday evening at around 5 pm, allegedly under the influence of alcohol. Residents alleged that Bakshi started urinating in front of a female shopkeeper near the society’s community centre, and when she called the security guard, he threatened him at knife-point. When some neighbours gathered, he allegedly started abusing and threatening them, following which the police were informed.

A police party comprising H C Balwinder Singh and constables Hardeep Singh and Ashok Kumar went to the spot. When confronted, Bakshi allegedly attacked Balwinder with a knife. Balwinder was attacked seven times and received multiple injuries on his head and limbs.

However, Bakshi was soon overpowered with the help of residents, one of whom received a minor knife injury in the process. While police claimed that Bakshi, too, received some injuries as he attacked himself, Bakshi claimed he was attacked by the police. Residents of the colony alleged that Bakshi lived alone in his flat and often misbehaved after consuming alcohol.

SP Anil Sharma said that a case has been registered for attempt to murder, assault on public servants, and various other charges under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the police station in Zirakpur.
