The unexpected entrance of Doug Ford in Toronto’s mayoral race has had little effect on John Tory's lead, according to a poll conducted by Ipsos Reid.

John Tory would receive the support of 43 per cent prospective voters while 29 per cent of Torontonians would support Olivia Chow. Doug Ford, who entered the race Friday, is behind Chow with 28 per cent of the vote.

Ipsos Reid polled 596 Toronto residents between Sept. 12 and Sept 16.

The poll, conducted for Global News, found that support was particularly high for Tory in North York at 52 per cent, Old Toronto at 45 per cent, and East York at 40 per cent.

Similar to Tory, Chow has the most support in East York, 35 per cent, and Old Toronto, 34 per cent.

The most support for Doug Ford lies in the heart to Ford Nation with 40 per cent of Etobicoke residents saying they would vote for him if the election was tomorrow.

The poll also asked Toronto residents whether they believe it was "appropriate" for Doug to replace his brother the mayoral race and 53 per cent said it was.
