JAIPUR: An elderly couple committed suicide by walking on the tracks of a moving train at Sector 3 of Malviya Nagar locality on Tuesday afternoon. Before their act, both of them did not show any signs depression to their son and left the house, saying they were going out for some work. Police were also in touch with the aggrieved son to know if some family feud was outcome of the suicide.

According to the police, the woman identified as Laajwanti (60) walked out of her Sector 2 house at 1.30pm on Tuesday towards the railway tracks in Sector 3 of Malviya Nagar. Barely some minutes after his wife left home, her husband Tikam Chand Bhatia followed on a scooter. Tikam Chand Bhatia had a shop of electrical goods and was closed being a Tuesday.
"The driver of the Allahbad-Jaipur superfast saw a couple walking on the tracks and despite his continued blowing of the horn, the couple did not leave the tracks and were run over. The driver after stopping the train at the Jagatpura railway station has given his statement and said it was not an accident as he had seen the couple walking on the tracks while holding their hands. From his statement, it is clear that it was not an accident but a suicide," said a senior police officer.
Heavy rush of onlookers gathered at the spot and the police were on the job of collecting the mutilated bodies of the elderly couple. Everyone was shocked to notice the suicide by an elderly couple which is quite unheard of in the city.
Soon after, the body of the couple was sent to the mortuary of the Jaipuria hospital. Their family members, including son Vikas Bhatia, were not willing to speak about the issue. Police said the reasons on why the couple took the extreme step were yet to be known.
"The family members are in a shock. At this time, we can't put pressure on them to tell us if they had some feud or confrontation. We will certainly take the statement of the family to know the reasons," a senior officer of Malviya Nagar police station said.
Though there more were cases of young couples in love committing suicide by jumping before moving trains, the uncommon case of an elderly couple has shocked and stunned the police too.
