Bandh in Kamareddy total, peaceful

September 17, 2014 12:20 am | Updated 12:20 am IST - NIZAMABAD:

A bandh, which was observed in response to a call given by the JAC comprising all people’s organisations, political parties (except TRS), caste associations and student unions in Kamareddy town on Tuesday, demanding the government make it as a separate district, was total and peaceful.

All schools and educational institutions, banks, shops and business establishments remained closed. The RTC suspended its services, cinema halls were closed and employees’ attendance in government offices was thin. The agitators went round the town enforcing the bandh.

Rally, human chain

Students formed a human chain at Nizamsagar chowrasta, while members of all political parties sat in a dharna at a camp put up by the JAC at the RTC bus depot. Earlier, a huge rally was taken out in the town on the demand.

Leaders who spoke at the dharna camp vowed to continue the struggle peacefully until their demand for formation of the district with Kamareddy as headquarters was met. They called upon leaders of all political parties and people’s organisations to extend their cooperation to the cause.

Making it clear that they were against the merger of some mandals in the revenue division with the proposed Siddipet district instead of forming Kamareddy as a separate district, they said that the town had all the facilities that a district headquarters should have.
