A walk on the silvery sands of the Kovalam beach, the majestic sea roaring aloud in front and with live music adding to the romance, the Covelong Point Surf Classic and Music Festival 2014 was nothing short of an ecstasy for the Chennaiites. The three-day festival, held from September 12-14, was organized to promote surfing and tourism, was quite a mixed bag and featured a lot of activities like a national level surfing competition, yoga, surfing workshops, volley matches among others.
The event was organized by TT Logistics and EarthSync in association with the Surfing Federation of India and The Times of India. Setting the stage on fire were bands and artists like TM Krishna, The Raghu Dixit Project, The Kutle Khan Project, Klypp, Pinch Filter Coffee, Delhi Sultanate and Begum X, Nischay Parekh featuring Jivraj Singh among others.
Talking about the event, Arun Vasu, chairman of TT Group, said, “The music adds to the entire event. As compared to last year, this year, the scene is much better and bigger.” Yotam Agam of EarthSync, who has been filming his documentary called Covelong Point, said the event aims to celebrate the surf culture in Covelong. “This is an initiative to bring together the culture of well-being that includes healthy food, surfing, yoga and good music. We also intend to raise awareness about surfing as a sport,” he said.
The music had a mix of everything, ranging from rock to classical. Raghu Dixit, who gave a finale performance, posted on his Twitter page, “Except for the rains cutting our set short, Covelong Surfing Fest looks like a happy festival that will soon catch attention of the nation!”
