Further Russia-Serbia trade ties possible: visiting Russian official

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexey Meshkov told senior Serbian officials in Belgrade on Tuesday that Serbia's decision not to impose sanctions against Russia over the Ukrainian crisis brings new possibilities for boosting economic cooperation between Serbia and Russia.

Meshkov on his visit to Belgrade on Tuesday met Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic and Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic and was assured that although Serbia supports territorial integrity of Ukraine, it won't follow the European Union sanctions against Russia.

According to a statement from Serbian president's office, Meshkov told Serbian president that the fact that Serbia opposes to sanctions opens new possibilities for increasing trade between two countries.

Nikolic and Meshkov expressed satisfaction with good relations between Serbia and Russia and estimated that there are ways to increase cooperation even more, especially in economic field.

Meshkov during meeting with Dacic agreed to continue dialogue on all important matters of mutual interest, according to Serbian foreign ministry. Endit
