Bhavans, CPS shuttlers triumph in State DSO badminton tournament

NAGPUR: Title favourites Centre Point School, Katol Road, and Bhartiya Vidya Mandir, Civil Lines, lived up to their reputation to emerge champions in their respective age groups of the Maharashtra State DSO Inter-School Badminton tournament at the Divisional Sports Complex in Nashik on Monday.
CPS reigned supreme in the U-14 boys, while Bhavans were victorious in the U-17 girls.
In a one-sided final, CPS outclassed Cathedral HS, Mumbai 2-0, courtesy a brilliant performance by Rohan Gurbani and Sudhanshu Bhure.
Mugdha Agrey emerged as the star performer for Bhavans as they rallied back superbly to prevail over Lilavati Podar HS 2-1 in an exciting U-17 girls final. Mugdha, a standard X student, won both her singles and doubles with Pallavi Pitale.
However, CPS, Dhaba team went down fighting against Ryan International School, Mumbai in the U-14 girls summit clash. Although, Malvika Bansod won her singles for CPS, Mumbai's Simran Singhi shattered the CPS team by winning both her singles as well as doubles.

U-17 girls: BVM, Civil Lines bt Lilavati Podar HS 2-1 (Rashi Lambe lost to Kalpita Sawant 19-21, 21-13, 21-13; Pallavi Pitale-Mugdha Agrey bt Kalpita Sawant-Radhika Dongaonkar 16-21, 21-19, 21-11; Mugdha Arey bt Radhika Dongaonkar 21-11, 21-14).
U-14 girls: CPS, Dhaba lost to Ryan International School, Mumbai 1-2 (Malvika Bansod bt Arya Shetty 21-10, 21-4; Malvika Bansod-Livia Fernandez lost to Simran Singhi-Arya Shetty 11-21, 14-21; Livia Fernandez lost to Simran Singhi 8-21, 11-21).
