Nine days after winning the Panjab University Students’ Council elections, the members can officially be seen in their respective offices now. With this, a number of students can also be seen flocking to the council office with their complaints and ideas.
Majority of the complaints are related to poor condition of hostels and allotment of hostel seats, said Divyanshu Budhiraja, president of PUCSC.
“I leave for my department at 8 am and then come to my Students’ Council office at around 11 to listen to the students.
Since I joined office, I have received many calls from students in regard to their problems. I usually ask them to come and meet me in my office.”
He added, “Largely, the problems are regarding hostel allotment. There are many students who have been figuring on the waiting list for two months and are finding it difficult to get places on rent at reasonable prices. We are here to guide them and to convey their problems to the authorities. Other complaints include branch sliding, examination related problems, and submission of the fees on the last day, among others.”
Meanwhile, Vice-President Snigdha Bawa said, “Each day, we have to co-ordinate among ourselves such that atleast one of us is always available in the office, and we do not miss out on our academics as well.”
On behalf of the students of University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET), Budhiraja, submitted a memorandum on Monday to the UIET Director Renu Vij, requesting for setting up of a mike system and white boards (marker-friendly) in the classrooms.
The memorandum stated, “Students face problems due to the old blackboards and inaudible teachers. A few of the teachers have low-pitched voice and are inaudible to the students sitting on the last benches. We request you to make provision for mike systems and white boards as soon as possible.”
A final-year student at UIET himself, Budhiraja said, “The problems are not only in my department but in other departments as well. We will be taking a round in all other departments as well for a feedback from students such that we can start working on our agenda for the coming year.”
