Three passengers were killed and more than 40 injured when a rashly driven Haryana Roadways bus smashed the railing of a bridge and fell on the dry bed of Begna river near Naraingarh on Monday morning.
Two women passengers, identified as Renu from Barauli village and Suman Devi from Nanehra, died on the spot while Maneet Kumar, a college student from Birtura, was declared dead by doctors at PGI.
The accident occurred around 8.30 am when the bus was going from Naraingarh to Ambala Cantt.
“The bus driver was driving very fast, he lost control of the bus and it toppled over. I lost consciousness for a while. After I regained my senses, I broke a windowpane to come out of the bus,” said Ekta Rani, a passenger.
Injured passengers were rushed to the civil hospital at Naraingarh. From there, seven were rushed to PGI and 15 to GMCH-32.
From GMCH-32, two were discharged after treatment and 13 were put under observation. “Their condition is stable,” said a doctor.
The patients rushed to PGI were admitted to Advanced Trauma Centre and one of them is critical.
Driver Surender Kumar was arrested and booked for rash driving, causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others, and causing death by negligence.
